After numerous 150-mph+ impacts, the central impact zone of the screen sags a bit, but overall, it’s holding up well. The “safety” screen around the net doesn’t stop a ball from going through, so I used several zip ties to reinforce it.

While the screen opens up more space, its retractable feature minimizes potential space issues. For its $2000 price, the ballistic screen has held up fine. Despite this, it maintains an impressive 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160), ensuring that colors are vibrant, especially in environments with very dark spaces.

The data point it provided was not as comprehensive as other more expensive alternatives but was still enough for casual golfing needs, which would suit the sports bar.

It also requires market balls to track data and doesn’t store data for multiple players, which makes league management challenging for a team of 12. Despite this drawback, I like that players are able to compete against themselves and others online, and it provides great precision for shots ranging from 10 cm to 435 yards.

I appreciated that I could see the video of my club striking the ball and get real-time feedback on how I hit the ball; this offered a detailed view of my shots. There is a module called Short Game Complex, which I really liked. It has two areas: a practice area where I can set up any shot I like, and a game-based drill that I play and try to get the highest score. In addition, there is a practice mode where you can go to any of your courses, any hole you want, and set up any shot.

Data redundancy across various modules is most appealing, ensuring a comprehensive analysis. By that, I mean that I can get all the shot data, the camera through impact view, and the swing analysis in putting green, driving range, short game complex, and even the club fitting software, which I did not get into very much.

This setup seems to have all the metrics except maybe club lie angle, which is more of a club-fitting thing. This setup provides flexibility and detailed feedback, making it an excellent choice for golf enthusiasts like myself. I would definitely recommend it as a great buy.

On a positive note, the enclosure was much more straightforward to put together, and one person could easily handle it quickly. Following the instructions made the process relatively simple.

While it comes with basic software, there’s an option to upgrade to game improvement or play and improve software packages.

• The basic plan includes a range, and advanced options offer various courses and additional features to enhance your game.
• The play and improve software, on the other hand, includes 15 E6 courses, 15 WGT courses, a 3D driving range, shot tracer technology, instant ball performance data and shot replay, target practice (single or multiplayer), skills assessment, bag mapping, progress tracking, custom environmental settings, and 5 different camera views. However, it requires a yearly subscription.

It’s important to note that the base price includes only the driving range. To access challenge software or shot history perks, you must subscribe to their “improvement package,” which is around $100 annually. There are various software packages with different subscription amounts for actual golf courses, or you can buy the Golf Club package for around $900.

While the simulator is more affordable than most, the upgrades come with additional costs without which you cannot access many of its features, plus it only tracks ball data. Considering the initial investment and additional cost, opting for a more expensive option with preloaded courses might be wise to avoid annual fees and still enjoy a robust simulation experience.

Performance 

My experience with Skytrak has been positive, especially regarding irons and drivers. The shot shapes are nearly spot-on, but I’ve noticed a slight discrepancy in distance compared to the range. The application efficiently captures higher loft shots and generally provides generous distance with similar shot shapes. It accurately reflects my shots regarding distances, club speed, ball speed, apex, and overall flight.

I’ve encountered few misreads, and the direction and spin align well with my on-course ball flight. The only challenge I’ve encountered is the accuracy of the distances from the monitor to the course. While the monitor is consistent with its readings, it doesn’t always match what I see on the course.

The graphics are good, and the game improvement module has been helpful in refining my skills. Despite the occasional quirks, Skytrak produces consistent and reliable numbers.

I did, however, notice that ball placement can be finicky, and the hitting screen is a bit challenging to adjust. My golf buddy, a 50-year-old golfer with a decreasing swing speed, didn’t encounter any misreads with Skytrak.

However, it’s worth noting that Skytrak only estimates club data and doesn’t measure it directly. Instead, it registers actual ball data, making your club head speed irrelevant in its calculations. The focus is entirely on your ball speed; in my case, it’s around 145 mph.

It’s affordable, but I suggest alternatives that provide club and ball data for a more comprehensive simulation experience. Nonetheless, Skytrak remains a decent product that delivers accurate results.

While I noticed that putting might not be its strongest feature, the HD image quality and swing analysis provide valuable insights into my swing technique, offering immediate and useful data on swing speed, angle of attack, and swing path. It provides a professional setup feel, and it seems durable and sturdy.

I’ve found it to be spot-on with shot shapes and distances. For instance, during a round with friends, I used the monitor for my tee shot, and it perfectly mirrored the actual shot, even capturing the distance accurately.

It has certainly made me rethink my club choices by offering realistic distances. While I initially felt the driver’s distances were short, testing it on a range confirmed its accuracy, picking up various shot types.
